Causes of Insomnia
There are many things that can cause a person to suffer from insomnia.
Going without sleep for a few nights naturally makes you anxious when it is time to go to sleep. Before you ever get into bed, you are worrying about whether or not you’re going to be able to sleep. Insomnia can turn into a vicious self-perpetuating cycle. Worrying about your lack of sleep can perpetuate your insomnia.
Having trouble falling asleep may be as related to what you eat and drink close to bedtime. Caffeine, nicotine and many over the counter medicines is a big player in the causes of insomnia.
Are you an active person? Lack of exercise in your day is can also be a contributing factor for insomnia. A very calm and quiet day may keep you from sleeping at night. If you are active during the day, look at when you’re exercising and when you’re having trouble sleeping. You may find that working out late in the day is what’s keeping your body from relaxing at night.
What is your bedroom environment like? Noise from the traffic or planes can keep you up or wake you up in the night. Watching tv while in bed can make your body tense and nervous. The light from the tv is a mental distraction. And be sure the temperature in the room is conducive for sleep. A room that is too hot or too cold for comfort can cause you to wake up at night.
Stress is often an underlying cause of insomnia. It can be a job-related issue, a sick family member, or a problem with a friend. People involved in accidents often have trouble sleeping for weeks after the accident. Stress and anxiety are very common causes of insomnis. If stress is keeping you up at night, try relaxation techniques such as insomnia hypnosis. Exercise is also a great stress reliever.
