Insomnia and Hypnosis

We have all been there before… trying to fall asleep at night. Tossing and turning. Looking at the alarm clock with a sad feeling, knowing that tomorrow you are facing another day being tired and crabby – just because you just can’t seem to get a restful night’s sleep.

Have you ever thought of trying self-hypnosis to end your insomnia? Insomnia hypnosis may sound like a far fetched remedy for your sleepless nights BUT if you look at hypnosis as a basic relaxation exercise, you may find the answer you need. Give these self-hypnosis type relaxation techniques a try tonight.

Ready to give this a shot?

1. Your first step should be relaxation. Get into bed and get totally comfortable. Adjust your pillow, pull up the blankets, and then lie down and relax. Get rid of all your tension. You need to relax your body and muscles. Close your eyes and visualize your body relaxing. Start with your feet and think about how relaxed your feet are. Then move up to your calves. Think about your calves and how the tension is just lifting away. Move up to your knees and think of how relaxed your knees are. They’re like jelly! Continue all the way up through your body, relaxing and visualizing the loss of tension in your body.

2. After you have relaxed your body, take in some very deep breathes and exhale slowly. Concentrate on your relaxing breathing patterns. If you’re breathing deeply, your abdomen should be moving. Be sure your breathes are slow and deep. You should be breathing deep into your lungs, not just short breathes that only inflate your upper lungs. You want to take very deep breathes to relax your tension. Concentrate on your breathing. After you feel yourself calming, think about your body and mind being in a peaceful state each time you exhale. As you exhale, in your mind say the word “peaceful” or “softly sleeping” or whatever you feel is a peaceful mantra.

What you’re doing here is taking your mind OFF of your day and away from anxiety and tension. You are talking yourself INTO being calm and rested. Let your mind go into a state of peacefulness.

This insomnia hypnonsis type exercise is also useful if you are waking up at night and have trouble getting to sleep again. Start at the beginning with relaxing your body parts. And then progress into your deep breathing. Make this your pattern and routine if you are having trouble sleeping at night.
